2023 Corruption Perceptions Index Shows Rise in Corruption
Only 28 of 180 Countries Show Progress
Transparency International Releases Annual Report
The 2023 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), released today by Transparency International, reveals that corruption continues to thrive globally.
Despite international anti-corruption efforts, only 28 of the 180 countries and territories included in the index have made significant progress in combating corruption.
The CPI ranks countries based on their perceived levels of public sector corruption, with scores ranging from 0 (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean). The average score for 2023 is just 43, indicating that most countries are failing to effectively address corruption.
The Philippines ranked 115th among 180 countries in the 2023 CPI, with a score of 34. This places the Philippines below the regional average of 45 for Southeast Asia.
