Early Life and Education

Alfredo del Mazo Maza was born on December 5, 1975, in Toluca, Estado de México. He is the son of Alfredo del Mazo González, a former governor of the State of Mexico. Del Mazo Maza earned a degree in law from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and also studied at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.

Political Career

Del Mazo Maza began his political career in the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI). He served as a federal deputy in the Chamber of Deputies from 2009 to 2012, and later as a senator from 2012 to 2017. In 2017, he was elected governor of the State of Mexico, where he served until 2021.

Controversies and Resignation

During his time as governor, Del Mazo Maza faced allegations of corruption and mishandling of the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2023, he resigned from the PRI after 30 years of membership. The reasons for his resignation are still unclear, but some speculate that it was related to the allegations he faced.

Current Status
