Zach Arnett Coach

Zach Arnett Fired as Mississippi State Head Coach

Former Ole Miss Analyst Returns to Starkville

Arkansas State Now Led by Former Bulldog Assistant

After less than one season at the helm, Zach Arnett has been fired as the head coach of Mississippi State football. The decision was announced on Monday by athletic director Zac Selmon. Arnett, 36, was hired in December 2021 after serving as an analyst at the University of Mississippi.

During his tenure at Mississippi State, the Bulldogs went 3-9 overall and 1-7 in SEC play. The team's only conference win came against Vanderbilt, which finished the season with a 5-7 record. Mississippi State also lost to FCS opponent Louisiana-Monroe in the season opener.

Arnett's firing comes as a surprise to many, as he was widely considered to be a rising star in the coaching ranks. He was a three-time All-SEC selection during his playing career at Ole Miss and helped lead the Rebels to the Cotton Bowl in 2008. After graduating, Arnett spent time as an assistant coach at Southern Miss, San Diego State, and Arkansas State before joining Ole Miss as an analyst.

Mississippi State will now begin the search for a new head coach. The Bulldogs have not won an SEC championship since 1941 and have only had one 10-win season since 1999.
